Lurkers, Awake!

Okay, you lurkers, you interlopers. I'm going to ask a question, and you better answer! Either on the blog, or by email, or phone, or pen-and-parchment.

How would it make you feel if you knew (and had written proof) that the things you think about — your job, your creative life, your family, your friends, your home, your health, your travel, your WHATEVER — basically don't change? That whatever you thought or said about any of those things years ago is the same thing you would think or say now? Would you be bemused, depressed, or cheered up? What would you do with this not-new information?

Tell me, because it's important.

it would depend on if those feelings/thoughts are happy ones or not. that would affect how i felt about my current status.

i find that i haven't changed much as a person (once a bitch, always a bitch), but that i've grown up in a lot of ways and this is reflected in how i feel about... oh, everything, i guess.

how's that for a non-answer answer?

i guess i would feel pretty f'ing bummed if i still felt like shit about stuff years later and rather chuffed if things were still good.

may i inquire as to why you're asking?

I want to know more why too! But I know when I've gone back to peruse old journals, how much of the same old is the same old. Almost. Not entirely. I think that's why some people use the image of spirals. Because they go round and round but change angles slightly, which can change everyhing.

Happy to be one of your blog readers.

after some thought (laundry sorting is so good for that):

It's reassuring to me that the things we love, that are important to us, can be sort of continuous threads through it all. I loved the mountains when I was three, I think I'll love them when I'm an old woman (knock on wood that I get there). There are books I loved at 12 that I love today, etc.

And there are still some things that frustrated me years ago, and they still do. I guess what's changed there is that I deal with them differently.

I'd love to talk about all this and see what you're thinking!

I think I would be bemused and a bit depressed.

I know there are a lot of things I have pondered internally over the years that have not really changed. But I also think that I have had various times/experiences which have forced an adjustment of consciousness resulting in internal shifts and changes.

I too am curious as to why you ask.
